It was a day to remember for all connected with Tottenham as Antonio Conte’s men clinched a Champions League place away at Norwich City on Sunday. Having a two-point advantage over Arsenal going into the final day, Spurs knew even a point would be good enough to secure fourth due to their superior goal difference.

Any pre-match nerves in the Tottenham away end were settled rather quickly with Dejan Kulusevski converting from Rodrigo Bentancur’s pass, before Harry Kane doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute with a header. Grabbing a third through a Kulusevski screamer just past the hour mark, it wasn’t long until Son Heung-min got in on the act as he hit a double to complete the 5-0 triumph.

Going into the game one behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, things did not appear to be going the Spurs attacker’s way following a number of missed chances at the start of the second half. Seconds after seeing Tim Krul deny him, Son made no mistake with his next attempt as he found the bottom corner before running over the celebrate with the jubilant away fans after drawing level with the Liverpool man.

Five minutes later and he was one ahead of the Egyptian after curling in a stunning strike that gave Krul absolutely no chance. Again making his way over to the away end, Son was this time held aloft by his joyous teammates with the award now firmly in his grasp.

Perhaps helped by Jurgen Klopp’s decision not to start his main man in their crucial title match against Wolves, Salah, following his introduction, drew level with Son six minutes from the end after putting the Reds in front. The duo were unable to add to their tally with time running out and it meant both shared the award after tremendous 2021/22 campaigns.

As reported by football.london ahead of kick-off, there was a Golden Boot award waiting for Son at Carrow Road just in case he triumphed. Having celebrated with the Tottenham fans after the game before heading back inside to the changing room, Son emerged once again just gone 6pm for his trophy presentation.

There may have been extremely limited numbers left inside Carrow Road but the 29-year-old was greeted by a big round of applause by a number of supporters waiting by the tunnel. On what could have been a rather quiet presentation given the vast majority had dispersed from the stadium, it was a really classy touch and one he appreciated as he waved and applauded the few watching on.

Son’s Tottenham chant could even be heard from the away end when he picked up his award as a smattering of away supporters had remained inside rather than heading for the exit door. His late double in East Anglia means that the gong will remain at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for another 12 months after Kane got his hands on it one year ago.

Asked in his pre-match press conference if Son would be on penalty duty at Norwich with the award on the line, Conte was again asked about his attacker following his heroics. While the South Korea international is the one who will ultimately keep the award after plundering 23 league goals, the boss outlined the importance of the team in helping his man come out on top.

“But you know very well what I said during my press conference. I said ok, but before we need to get a place in the Champions League, then if there is the possibility to help Sonny to become top scorer in the league then we are very happy. And he scored twice and he could have scored more, “explained the Italian.

“But at the same time I want to underline the big effort the team did for Sonny. To see this I really appreciated the will, the desire of the team-mates to help him become top scorer.

“It means that there is a great atmosphere in the dressing room. It means the players are really good people, not only good players. We were good to match today these two targets, to get a place in the Champions League and for Sonny to win the Golden Boot. “

Scoring 12 goals in his final ten league matches for Tottenham to tie with Salah on 23 for the season, Son, and Kane as well for that matter, could once again score for fun next term in Conte’s team. Could the Premier League Golden Boot be heading back to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 12 months time? You certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
