Ko Itakura will return to Manchester City after Schalke loan

The 25-year-old Japan international featured 32 times as Schalke won the 2 Bundesliga, but the German side have opted not to activate their buy option on the midfielder.

Schalke sporting director Rouven Schroder explained: “We’d loved to have him in our Bundesliga squad, but that was not possible due to financial reasons.

“We do not want to beat around the bush. At this moment in time, when a lot of squad planning decisions still need to be made, we were unable to exercise the purchase option.

“The financial outlay was too large and would have exceeded our carefully-planned budgets.”

News: Romain Saiss confirms Wolves exit after six years at club

Romain Saiss has confirmed that he will leave Wolverhampton Wanderers after six years at the club.

The 32-year-old is out of contract and no agreement has been reached over a new deal. The defender said last week that he was “probably” going to leave.

Wolves had offered the Moroccan center-back a new contract but his wage demands are said to be above what the club are willing to pay. Saiss also turned down a contract extension last year.

It is believed he has several other offers from across Europe.

Saiss has made 206 appearances for Wolves across all competitions since joining from Angers in 2016, and was a crucial member of the defense which anchored the club’s position in the Premier League after their promotion in 2018.

News: Frank Lampard fined £ 30k after Everton manager criticized refereeing during Merseyside derby

Frank Lampard has been fined £ 30,000 by the Football Association (FA) after criticizing the refereeing during the April’s Merseyside derby.

Everton lost the game 2-0 after goals from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi, but were aggrieved that Anthony Gordon was not awarded a penalty with the score at 0-0.

Everton subsequently wrote to PGMOL boss Mike Riley to explain why the penalty was not awarded, with Lampard criticizing referee Stuart Attwell after the match.

“It’s a penalty in the second half,” he said. “I do not think you get them here. I think probably if that is Mo Salah at the other end, you get a penalty. And I’m not trying to create conflict there, I think it is just the reality of football sometimes.

“It was a foul, it was a clear foul. But you do not get them here. ”

Later that week, the FA asked Lampard to explain his comments.

News: Claim that 2022 FIFA World Cup will be ‘carbon-neutral’ challenged by researchers

Organizers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup claimed last September that the tournament would be the first “carbon-neutral World Cup in the history of the event”.

However, new research from Carbon Market Watch has questioned the accuracy of this statement, saying that “creative accounting” is required to reach the “misleading” goal.

Carbon Market Watch claim their research shows that World Cup organizers have “ignored some major sources of emissions”, underestimating the emissions of stadium construction “by a factor of eight”.

Seven new stadiums are being built for the finals, which begin in November. Questions have previously been raised over the human rights afforded to construction workers.

Researchers also claim that the carbon offsetting options “have a low level of environmental integrity, meaning they are unlikely to benefit the climate”.

News: Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper to be offered new contract

Steve Cooper is set to be offered a new contract at Nottingham Forest after guiding the club into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

He was appointed in September with Forest languishing at the foot of the Championship table, having only taken one point from their first seven games.

However, Cooper quickly turned around Forest’s fortunes, leading them to fourth in the league, before earning promotion through the play-offs.

They beat Huddersfield Town at Wembley on Sunday to seal a long-awaited Premier League return, and owner Evangelos Marinakis announced an immediate intention to secure Cooper’s future long-term.

The 42-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the 2022-23 season.

James Ward-Prowse targeting England honors

For Southampton, James Ward-Prowse is everything.

To others, he is often bookmarked as a set-piece specialist who has the goalkeeper beaten before he has even struck a free kick towards the top corner.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola even described the 27-year-old England international as “the best free-kick taker” he has ever seen. But Guardiola is smart enough to know there is more to Ward-Prowse’s game than striking a dead ball.

“He is so good that maybe you miss a little bit of the football player. He is a team player of great quality, without the ball and with the ball, ”the former Barcelona manager added. And the 2021-22 Premier League campaign serves as evidence for Guardiola’s comments.

Dan Sheldon writes on Southampton’s player of the season.
