Tottenham star Heung-min Son given hero’s welcome as he returns to South Korea with Premier League Golden Boot award

Tottenham forward Heung-min Son was given a hero’s welcome in South Korea after returning home with the Premier League Golden Boot.

The Spurs star finished the season on 23 goals and finished level at the top of the charts with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, meaning the duo shared the award.

Son is the first Asian player to win the top scorer gong and is considered one of the best players the continent has ever produced.

The 29-year-old has made 98 caps and scored 31 goals for the South Korea national team and had a huge following from adoring fans.

And that was shown by the huge crowds that turned up at the airport when he returned to his homeland after a long season, with fans wanting to catch a glimpse of the superstar.

The Tottenham favorite arrived with the Golden Boot trophy in hand and posed for photographs, before waving at the fans that had come to see the superstar.

The president of South Korea, Yoon Seok-youl, said: “This is a joyous occasion to be celebrated by the entire Asian football community.

“I believe this award is the result of your passion after having devoted yourself and worked endlessly for your team all season.”

Speaking after his two goals in Spurs’ 5-0 win, Son said: “It’s incredible to have this award. I can not believe it.

“I got really emotional. I dreamed of it as a child. Literally, it’s in my hands. I can’t believe it. “

He added: “Until my goal, I was really frustrated that I missed big chances. I told the players I missed the easiest chances and scored one of the toughest! ”
