The summer transfer window will open in less than two weeks but already the rumor mill is spinning frantically.

After a disappointing 2021/22 season, Southampton will be looking to build a squad that can improve on an underwhelming 15 th -placed finish. Saints at one stage looked on course for the top-half, but a stumble towards the latter stages of the campaign saw them slide down the table and closer to the bottom three, with 40 points collected from their 38 matches.

A whole host of names have already been linked with a move to St Mary’s this summer, including a young Chelsea star who impressed in the Championship last season and an England international who found playing time hard to come by at a Premier League top four side last season. Here, we take a look at some of those who have been linked with a summer transfer move to Southampton.

Junior Adamu – Forward (RB Salzburg)

The Mail claim West Ham and Southampton are interested in this 20-year-old Austrian international who scored nine goals last season, including one against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Adamu can play on the wing or as a striker and has attracted a lot of admirers across Europe. Premier League rivals Brighton are also thought to be an interested party, along with Ajax, Hertha Berlin and RB Leipzig

Levi Colwill – Central Defender (Chelsea)

The 19-year-old Chelsea youngster said he would be open to rejoining Huddersfield Town on loan next season, but that might change after the Terriers failed to clinch promotion to the Premier League after their defeat in the play-off final against Nottingham Forest.

Colwill may not be short of options for next season with Goal claiming Crystal Palace, Brighton, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal are interested in the defender.

Morgan Gibbs-White – Attacking Midfielder (Wolves)

The Wolves midfielder helped Sheffield United reach the Championship play-offs last season. Now that his loan spell has come to an end, The Sun claim Southampton are at the front of the line to sign the 22-year-old, with a fee of £ 20million being mooted.

However, Bruno Lage is keeping the door open for Gibbs-White to stake his claim for a spot in the Wolves team for next season.

Armando Broja – Forward (Chelsea)

Hasenhuttl made it clear he would like Broja to return to the south coast for next season. However, Saints will face incredibly tough competition this summer to make that happen.

Reports in Italy suggest AC Milan, Internazionale and Napoli want to sign Broja, along with rumors of interest from West Ham, Arsenal and Dortmund. However, the Athletic report that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will give the Albanian the chance to impress during the pre-season with the Blues.

Tom Lawrence – Midfielder (Derby County)

The Derby County midfielder is set to face a tough decision this summer once his contract expires with the Rams. Lawrence is set to become a free agent on June 30, but his situation at Derby has been complicated further due to the ongoing takeover saga at Pride Park.

Meanwhile, Southampton are said to be monitoring the situation, with Lawrence also being linked with Leeds United, newly promoted sides Fulham and Bournemouth and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Harry Winks – Midfielder (Tottenham Hotspur)

It is believed Tottenham have told Harry Winks that he is free to find a new club this summer, according to Football Insider. The central midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs and various reports suggest that a fee of £ 20-25million is what it will take for interested clubs to sign the 26-year-old.

Southampton have been linked with Winks in transfer windows gone by and this summer is no different. Newcastle United have also been touted as a potential destination for the Spurs midfielder.

Ryan Fredericks – Full-back (West Ham United)

The defender will become a free agent on June 30 when his contract at West Ham expires. Saints were previously linked with the 29-year-old before he joined the Hammers from Fulham in the summer of 2018.

With his contract expiring, this will open the door for Saints to swoop in and sign Fredericks, but it is claimed former club Fulham are interested in bringing the defender back to Craven Cottage.

Tete – Winger (Lyon)

The Brazilian winger was heavily linked with a move to St Mary’s back in March after terminating his contract with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. However, the Premier League blocked any attempted moves, Saints were prevented from completing a deal.

Tete joined French side Lyon until the end of the season and it remains unclear whether he will continue with the Ligue 1 side next term. As well as Saints, Tete attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs back in March, including Brighton, Everton, Brentford, Leicester and West Ham.

Gavin Bazunu – Goalkeeper (Manchester City)

The Irishman has been linked with a return to the south coast after impressing on loan at Portsmouth last season. The keeper made 46 appearances for Pompey across all competitions and kept 17 clean sheets. Bazunu has reportedly told City he wants regular first-team football again next season, according to The Times, leading to links with Saints and newly promoted side Bournemouth.

Bartlomiej Dragowski – Goalkeeper (Fiorentina)

With Saints on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with Fraser Forster expected to leave the club for Tottenham this summer, Fiorentina shot-stopper Dragowski is another name linked with a move to St Mary’s. The Poland international has found playing time limited with Serie A side Fiorentina and the Telegraph reported earlier this month that Saints have prepared a £ 10million offer for the keeper.

James Garner – Midfielder (Manchester United)

The 21-year-old’s performances out on loan with Nottingham Forest in the Championship last season have not gone unnoticed. Forest are likely to be in the running to keep the midfielder for another year but they could also face competition from Premier League rivals Saints and Leeds United.

Liam Delap, James McAtee and Cole Palmer (Manchester City)

The Sun reported earlier this month that Saints are eyeing up a loan move for hot prospect Liam Delap. The 19-year-old forward is slowly being brought into the City first-team setup after making six appearances in total, scoring one goal.

The Athletic has also name-dropped fellow City youngsters James McAtee and Cole Palmer as potential transfer targets for Saints this summer.
