Arsenal will need to sign an extra midfielder alongside the arrival of Pablo Vieira in the summer transfer window. Youri Tielemans seemed to be the Gunners’ main choice but talks have now reportedly stalled.
The Gunners must look for alternatives and one player who would be an ideal signing is Renato Sanches. Edu can join PSG in the race to steal him from AC Milan, as according to French news outlet Foot Mercato, the Parisian side plan to hijack the Portuguese international despite the midfielder already agreeing to personal terms with the Rossoneri.
Edu must look to sign an alternative to Tielemans in the summer window. Sanches has already shown that he has the qualities to succeed at Arsenal, which also explains the clubs’ interest in the player throughout the previous campaign.

Youri Tielemans seemed to be the ideal target to improve the middle of the park for Arsenal, but this is reportedly no longer the case. Mikel Arteta’s side have ‘cooled’ their interest in Tielemans, according to Sky Sports. The report claims that it is becoming increasingly likely that the Belgium international now signs a one-year contract extension at the King Power Stadium, with its current deal set to expire in 12 months.
The Gunners will need to sign a midfielder due to a lack of depth and quality in the middle of the park. Arsenal have previously been linked to Sanches, and with the cheap price tag quoted for him, it is a deal that Edu should look to explore, especially after the decision not to sign Tielemans.
Sanches has proven to provide some of the most progressive passes and carries per 90 minutes in Europe’s top five leagues this season. The Portuguese international has been a stand-out performer since joining French side Lille who won the Ligue 1 title last season and progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League during this campaign.
The Lille midfielder currently has one of the best ball-carrying tendencies in Europe highlighting his confidence and bravery to turn defense into attack in a swift manner. Arsenal need this type of midfielder to play alongside Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard, meaning Sanches would prove to be the perfect fit.
There is an extra incentive to sign him because according to SportItalia, the French champions approached Sanches to offer him a new contract. However, the 24-year-old put talks on hold because he is ready for a new adventure.
And this adventure could be Arsenal, which he confirmed himself earlier in the season. Speaking to L’Equipe, Sanches said: “Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I do not know. I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling me but I can not say right now. But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me. ”
The main doubt surrounding Sanches is his injury issues, which have been a prominent feature throughout his young career. Reports in France have quoted him as costing around £ 16million, and for such a bargain for a quality player, it is worth taking the risk for the Portuguese international.
With PSG reportedly having the intentions to steal Sanches from AC Milan who are in talks to sign the midfielder, it is important that Arsenal also stake their claim to sign the midfielder. He has proven in recent seasons that he would enhance the Gunners’ midfield.
