Georginio Wijnaldum leads a nine-man list of ‘UNDESIRABLE’ stars at PSG, as he’s left at HOME for pre-season and put on the transfer list with outcasts Idrissa Gueye, Ander Herrera and Mauro Icardi
- Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly put nine players up for sale this summer
- Georginio Wijnaldum, Mauro Icardi and Ander Herrera not part of Japan tour
- PSG have changed direction with the appointment of Christophe Galtier as boss
Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made the decision to leave nine ‘undesirable’ stars at home for their pre-season tour of Japan.
The French giants will continue their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign by facing Kawasaki Frontale on July 20, Urawa Reds on July 23 and Gamba Osaka on July 25.
But Georginio Wijnaldum, Mauro Icardi, Layvin Kurzawa, Julian Draxler, Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye, Junior Dina Ebimbe, Rafinha and Sergio Rico will not play a part, according to L’Equipe.
Georginio Wijnaldum (L) and Mauro Icardi (R) have reportedly been put up for sale by PSG
The report claims that the nine players will not belong to the traveling party and have been put on the transfer list this summer.
Former Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum has failed to have an impact at the Parc des Princes since his free transfer last summer.
Although not renowned for his goalscoring threat from midfield at club level, the 31-year-old scored just three goals and three assists in 38 appearances last season as he struggled for minutes under Mauricio Pochettino. Everton, West Ham and Leicester are interested.
PSG midfielders Idrissa Gueye (L) and Ander Herrera (R) are also not part of pre-season plans
Last month Icardi hit back at rumors that the Ligue 1 outfit will look to sell him in the summer, blasting the reports as a ‘load of c**p’.
The Argentine, who scored just five goals in 30 appearances last season, has fallen behind the star-studded front three of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in the pecking order.
Icardi made only 10 league starts in the 2021-22 campaign, fueling suggestions the 29-year-old may be heading for the exit door.
PSG have changed direction with the appointment of Christophe Galtier (L) as manager
Former Manchester United midfielder Herrera is reportedly happy in France and was a regular at the start of the season but he gradually fell out of favor in the business end and is now up for sale.
Ex-Everton and Aston Villa midfielder Gueye has just one year left on his current deal at the club, meaning PSG are running the risk of losing him for nothing next year.
Kurzawa has two years left on his deal but has been frozen out, Draxler’s last term was hindered by injuries, 21-year-old Dina Ebimbe warmed the bench last season while Rafinha and Sergio Rico have seen limited game time as their deals wind down.
PSG have changed direction with the appointment of Christophe Galtier as Pochettino’s successor.
The new boss warned his squad to get on board with his ideas or ‘they will be set aside’ when he was unveiled last week.
Galtier also paid tribute to PSG’s football advisor, Luis Campos. The pair worked together at Lille and won Ligue 1 in 2021, at Pochettino and PSG’s expense.
‘Luis Campos’ presence at PSG was decisive, and then my exchanges with the president which made me accept the job of PSG manager, with a lot of humility but with great determination,’ he said.
