Powerful Ligue 1 striker and reported West Ham United target Alberth Elis to be sold in a mass clear-out at relegated Bordeaux.
West Ham are known to be targeting players from the French league, a specialist area for head of recruitment Rob Newman.
David Moyes needs to rebuild his West Ham side with at least six or seven quality signings this summer.
And one of those simply must be a striker.
The Hammers have been linked with a host of forwards in the build-up to the summer transfer window, which officially opens on Friday.
But according to a West Ham insider speaking to Claret and Hugh recently, Moyes does not want to spend big on a striker as he still sees Michail Antonio as his first choice forward.
Instead he wants a value-for-money back-up forward who offers like-for-like abilities to Antonio namely being quick, strong and versatile.
And it seems Moyes may be in luck after powerful striker Alberth Elis was put up for sale.
According to Foot Market a couple of months ago, West Ham were keen to explore Honduras international Elis’s situation.
The forward has flourished at Bordeaux since moving to the French side from Portuguese club Boavista.
Elis scored a quarter of all Bordeaux’s goals last season and was a key focal point up front. But he could not help keep the side in Ligue 1 as they slipped out of the French top flight.
Now the powerful Ligue 1 striker and West Ham target Elis is set to be sold in a Bordeaux clear-out mass.
According to The teamBordeaux are preparing to part with between 16 and 18 players, including star asset Elis.
“Providing the club passes the DNCG later this month without incident, Bordeaux will proceed with a mass clear-out, and clubs have already made contact inquiring about some of their most saleable assets.” The team reports.
The team are reporting that bids have already been lodged for Elis from the Premier League with Leeds also credited with an interest.
Bordeaux reportedly rejected a € 21m (£ 17.5m) bid for the 26-year-old from a Chinese club in January (The team).
But having been relegated they are said to be desperate to raise funds and now West Ham could get the striker for a very reasonable fee.
Elis could be ideal for West Ham as he is similar in style to Antonio but will not expect to be starting every game for the Hammers, especially initially while he adapts and tries to prove himself in the Premier League.
He even likes the odd theatrical goal celebration just like Antonio!
Bordeaux’s technical director Admar Lopes talked up Elis on the club’s official website and he sounds perfect for West Ham in so many ways as Moyes likes to sign players who also have a good, hardworking attitude.
“Alberth is a forward we’ve been very familiar with since he was a young boy,” Lopes said about Elis on the Bordeaux website.
“He has an incredible, explosive power and is capable of playing anywhere in attack. Alberth also brings with him a deep wellspring of drive and ambition. ”
