Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been linked with a move to Manchester United, according to AS.
The 21-year-old Georgian international has made 21 appearances for Valencia this season since joining the La Liga giants from Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi.
Mamardashvili has shared the Valencia goalkeeping position with Netherlands international Jasper Cillessen this season under manager Pepe Bordalas.
While Cillessen conceded 29 goals and registered three clean sheets from 17 La Liga games, the two-time Georgian international conceded 20 goals from 18 league games, which included eight clean sheets.
AS report that the Red Devils have inquired about Mamardashvili, who has a release of 20million Euros (£ 17m).
However, the Mestalla-based club are looking to extend his contract, which would likely include a significantly higher release clause inserted.
With the MEN reporting last week that Dean Henderson is likely to move to Newcastle on loan, Erik ten Hag may be looking to sign a new goalkeeper which can provide competition and cover for David de Gea, who is closing in on a contract extension.
Players that have played for Manchester United and Valencia
With Mamardashvili linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford, United in Focus takes a look at the three players that have played for Manchester United and Valencia.
Kicking off the players that played for Manchester United and Valencia is Mata.
After moving to Valencia from Real Madrid as a youngster, Mata rose to prominence in a talented Los Ches side which included the likes of David Silva and David Villa.
Mata won the Copa del Rey in his first season at Valencia and that trophy proved to be his only triumph with the La Liga side.
After four years and 174 games for Valencia, which brought 46 goals and 52 assists, Mata signed for Chelsea for £ 23.5m in August 2011.
For two seasons at Stamford Bridge, Mata was at the heart of the Chelsea side which won the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League.
It was the Spaniard’s corner which resulted in Didier Drogba bringing Chelsea level in the 2012 Champions League final, which they later won on penalties, against Bayern Munich.
But everything changed for the World Cup and European Championship winner when Jose Mourinho arrived for his second stint as Chelsea boss.
Prior to Mourinho’s arrival, Mata had scored 31 goals and laid on 55 assists from 118 games for the Blues.
But with Mata regularly being cast aside on the Chelsea bench under Mourinho, he joined Manchester United for £ 37.1m in January 2014, and he proved to be David Moyes’ second and final signing.
Mata was a regular under Louis van Gaal and he scored the equalizer in the 2016 FA Cup final. United’s number eight also started the 2017 Europa League success under Mourinho.
But as his United career wore on his involvement significantly reduced as signings and youngsters came into the side.
The 34-year-old, who looks set to leave Manchester United this summer after waving goodbye to the traveling fans on the final day of the season, scored 51 goals and provided 47 assists from 285 games for the Red Devils.
During Mourinho’s tenure at United, Pereira spent back-to-back seasons on loan in Spain with the latter coming to Valencia following a year at Granada.
After regularly featuring for Granada and starting 34 La Liga games which brought five goals and three assists, the Brazilian started just 12 top-flight games for Valencia and he scored just one goal.
The midfielder returned to United the following summer and made 22 appearances during the 2017-18 campaign, with 16 of those appearances coming under then-interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Pereira made 40 first-team appearances under Solskjaer the following season, 25 of which were starts, but since then he’s spent time out on loan at Lazio and Flamengo.
Pereira looked all set to leave Manchester United and join Flamengo on a permanent basis but the deal is no longer on.
The talented Portuguese forward enjoyed seven trophy-filled years at Manchester United following his move from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, in a summer that saw Sir Alex sign Owen Hargreaves, Anderson and Carlos Tevez as well.
In his first season at Old Trafford Nani won the Premier League and Champions League double. The 2016 European Championship winner won 12 trophies with the Red Devils including four league titles.
After making just one appearance under Louis van Gaal, Nani moved back to the Lisbon giants on loan as part of the deal which saw the Reds sign Marcos Rojo for £ 16m.
Nani won the Portuguese Cup during his season-long loan in the Portuguese capital before joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a permanent deal where he linked up with Robin van Persie once again.
He finished his Manchester United career with 41 goals and 73 assists from 230 matches.
After a season in Turkey, Nani joined Valencia in the summer of 2016 where he went on to make 25 La Liga appearances which saw him score five goals and provide eight assists.
Nani then had a one-year loan spell with Lazio and a third stint with Sporting Lisbon before moving to the MLS with Orlando City.
Following three years in America which brought 31 goals and 18 assists from 88 matches, the 35-year-old moved to Serie A with Venezia.
Nani is playing alongside former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero, but Venezia have been relegated to Serie B.
