Luis Diaz has been compared to a former Arsenal hero, with the Colombian star tipped to cause Real Madrid a major headache in the Champions League final.

Diaz has made a dream start to life at Anfield, slotting into the team with consummate ease – his skills and goals quickly endearing himself to the Reds faithful.

He’s only been to the club for four months, but Diaz is already one win away from his third major trophy with Liverpool, who take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday night – LIVE on talkSPORT.

The Colombian is expected to get the nod from Jurgen Klopp, having developed a good understanding with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, to start in the final showpiece as the Reds target European Cup No.7.

And former Liverpool star David James has suggested he’s the most likely of Liverpool’s star-studded forward line to hurt the LaLiga champions at the Stade de France.

However, according to James, there is one key area where Diaz can improve.

“He reminds me of Paul Merson,” former Liverpool goalkeeper James told talkSPORT.com with Genting Casino.

“Paul Merson has won league titles, this isn’t an average player we’re talking about, but he was so heavily right-footed and I see the same when I watch Diaz.

“I love him and what I love about him is there’s an area that can be improved and he’s that good already that he can become even better.

“He’s so reliable on his right foot, I think someone needs to take him to one side and do a little bit of work with his left foot because he does not like crossing the ball with his left foot.”

“If you work on it then all of a sudden he’s going to approach defenders and they’re not going to know which was he’s going to go,” James continued.

“If you’ve got Diaz you know he’s going to go on his right or go low on the floor with his left because he hasn’t got the confidence with his left. He would rather use the outside of his right foot than his left foot.

“But he could be the Liverpool hero by the end of the game on Saturday. I think of all the players he’s got the skills to actually cause Real Madrid loads of problems. “
