Huge Broja boost for West Ham after Chelsea development overnight

There was a huge Armando Broja boost for West Ham after a Chelsea development overnight as an official bid was made for Raphinha.

West Ham have been intensely linked with a move to Chelsea academy graduate Broja.

The Hammers were first linked with a move for the striker earlier this season after he seriously caught the eye on loan at Southampton (Football Insider).

Sky Sports has reported that Broja is on Moyes’s list of striker targets for the summer window with a forward being a top priority for West Ham.

And Sky Sports transfer reporter Dharmesh Sheth claimed recently that Chelsea have set West Ham a fee of more than £ 25m for Broja, claiming an official bid from the Hammers is imminent.

West Ham are facing an anxious wait to see if Chelsea will do business with them over Broja.

Last week Telegraph journalist Jason Burt said Chelsea are rejecting any approaches for the Albanian striker and are in no rush to sell him.

A West Ham insider then told Claret and Hugh that any deal for Broja will have to wait until the end of pre-season while he is assessed closely by Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel during a tour of America.

But most relevant to the Broja situation is Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea departure to Inter Milan.

That means West Ham will likely have to wait and hope the Blues get a new striker or two signed before they consider letting Broja leave.

Yesterday we reported how Chelsea’s interest in Everton striker Richarlison was therefore great news for West Ham.

Sky Sports reported that Chelsea are interested in not just Richarlison but also Raheem Sterling and Ousmane Dembele too.

And there was another huge Broja boost for West Ham after a Chelsea development overnight as an official bid was made for ex David Moyes target Raphinha at Leeds.

“Chelsea are in talks with Leeds over a deal for Raphinha, with the Blues prepared to pay in excess of £ 50m to get the deal done,” Sky Sports reported overnight.

Chelsea’s bid has at this point trumped Arsenal, who had an opening bid rejected but are expected to go back in with an improved offer.

“Chelsea are also in for Raheem Sterling with Manchester City expecting to field a bid for the England international after Thomas Tuchel engaged Sterling over how he would fit in at Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea are confident they can sign Manchester City forward Sterling this summer, as long as a fee can be agreed with the Premier League champions for the player.”

With Raphinha now looking likely for a move to Stamford Bridge, the Blues reportedly confident of adding another forward in the shape of Sterling AND being in for Richarlison and Dembele – it can only be good news for West Ham’s Broja hopes.

It was always highly unlikely that Tuchel – under pressure to close the gap on the likes of Man City and Liverpool – would suddenly thrust young, raw Broja into the side as Lukaku’s replacement off the back of six Premier League goals in his breakthrough season.

And if Chelsea get Raphinha, Sterling and possibly even two more forwards, it surely clears the path for West Ham to sign Broja – perhaps sooner rather than later too.

With Timo Werner also in the mix West Ham will be leaning heavily on the fact they will undoubtedly be able to offer Broja more game time.

Especially in light of claims that the Slough-born Albanian wants to be playing as much as possible having tasted first team football last season.
