Gerard Pique has sensationally been told by Xavi – the Barcelona manager and his former team-mate – that he is no longer part of his plans and can leave the Nou Camp.

It has been revealed that the Spanish international was told he has no future at the club two weeks ago due to unprofessional conduct off the field and his deteriorating physical condition.

The shock revelation from Xavi came just days before Pique’s high-profile split from Colombian singer Shakira came to light.

Spanish media outlet SPORT also claims that Xavi’s primary issue with the player is his numerous business interests off the field, and it is believed that Pique is owed approximately € 40million (£ 34.3m) by Barca for deferred payments.

Xavi reportedly spoke to his former team-mate directly and made it clear that Pique is not going to be included in his plans for the future.

While Xavi does not question Pique’s ability to perform at the highest level, it is thought he has concerns about the veteran defender’s ability to cope with the hectic schedule within modern football.

The club hope that Pique will make a dignified exit this summer and even let them off some of the .3 34.3m that they owe him, just like legendary figure Carles Puyol did when he left in 2014.

Puyol left the Catalan giants in 2014 after 15 seasons with the first-team with two years still on his contract, like his former defensive partner, as a result of his body being unable to handle the demands of professional football.

But Pique is willing to resist the club’s desire to see him leave and reportedly vowed to work harder, return to his best form and relieve himself of some of his off-pitch commitments.

Sporting director Mateu Alemany must now hold talks with Pique about the possibility of him either ripping up his contract or finding him a new club.

Xavi, who played 312 games with Pique, wants to build his team around a defense that he can put his full faith in, and according to the Barca legend, that is something Pique can not bring him.

In the past few years, Pique has also been embroiled in a spat over the leadership of the Spanish FA and fined nearly ,000 8,000 for abusing police after receiving a parking ticket.

Pique is the founder of a sport and media investment holding called Kosmos Holding, which he formed and is also president of, alongside four other partners, including Hiroshi Mikitani, the founder of Barca’s sponsor Rakuten.

Despite Xavi’s comments, though, Pique is still contracted until 2024.

SPORT’s reports also suggest that Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, who has been a high-profile target for numerous clubs including Chelsea, is a player who Xavi wants as a potential replacement.

Barcelona are poised to sign Andreas Christensen from Chelsea on a free transfer and are interested in Cesar Azpilicueta. Uruguayan star Ronald Araujo has already been earmarked as the new leader of the club’s defense.

Since returning to the club in 2008 after four years with Manchester United, Pique has won three Champions Leagues, eight LaLigas, three Club World Cups, seven Copa Del Rey, six Spanish Super Cups and three UEFA Supercups, scoring 53 goals in 602 games.

It is another bitter blow for Pique after Shakira announced their split last week.

The former pair – who are parents to sons Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven – released a joint statement in which they said: ‘We regret to confirm that we are separating.

‘We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect. ‘

The Grammy winner and the athlete initially appeared publicly as a couple in 2011.

The announcement comes amid rumors in the Spanish tabloids that the couple were on the verge of breaking up with sources claiming he had cheated on the star.

Spanish outlet El Periodico reported that the couple have been living separately for a few weeks after Piqué was kicked out of the family home by the pop star.

According to sources, Piqué has since been living a ‘party lifestyle’ in a bachelor pad and enjoying nights out with his teammates.

Neither party addressed cheating claims but journalist Emilio Pérez reported: ‘(Shakira) has made the decision to separate. That is so. It has happened.

‘That is why there is distance. Perhaps there is nothing left, but that (infidelity) has passed. ‘
