Gary Neville has rubbed salt into Liverpool’s wounds with an X-rated blast after seeing them lose the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

The Reds were seeking the seventh European Cup of their history when they traveled to the Stade de France on Saturday night. Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated for the most part against Los Blancos, having 24 shots on target.

But they found Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois in inspired form, with the Belgian pulling off a string of fine saves. They were unable to find a way past Courtois, which proved to be incredibly costly just before the hour mark.

Madrid broke forward, with Vinicius sneaking away from Trent Alexander-Arnold to fire in unmarked at the back post. The Brazilian’s strike was the only one of the game and was enough to secure the 14th European Cup of Madrid’s history.

Liverpool were left devastated after the game, with their hearts broken as Madrid celebrated wildly. And Manchester United legend Neville took full advantage of their disappointment to rub salt into their wounds.

The former Red Devils skipper, who won the Champions League twice, launched an X-rated blast on Twitter at Klopp’s men. He wrote: “It’s really normal to be happy tonight if you’re a united fan! I’m f @@@@@ g ecstatic!”

Neville then posted a video from a Manchester pub with rival fans celebrating Liverpool’s defeat. Despite the double disappointment of missing out on the Champions League and Premier League, Liverpool will still hold a trophy parade on Sunday.

The parade has been organized for them to show off the FA Cup and Carabao Cup trophies that they won earlier this campaign. And club legend Steven Gerrard has backed Klopp’s side to bounce back from their failure. The Aston Villa boss praised Real Madrid’s performance, but insisted that Liverpool had played well.

“Real put a defensive masterclass. Their defense across the pitch was magnificent. Over the 90 minutes they were blocking, defending one v one and positionally they defender ever so well,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“It’s a headscratcher. I do not think Liverpool did too much wrong. Okay they weren’t clinical and ruthless to take those chances – but a keeper just got man of the match against them in a final.

“Make no mistake, they will bounce back. You have those experiences to learn from. This game is either the best night of your life or one of the worst. They will dust themselves down and go for it all again next year.”
