When quizzed on whether the club will be able to shop for reinforcements this summer, Glazer appeared to confirm Ten Hag would receive funds to spend on new additions.

“We’ve always spent the money needed to buy new players,” Glazer told Sky Sports.

His comments will come as welcome news to Manchester United fans who saw their club amass their worst-ever Premier League points total this season with 58.

United’s sixth-placed finish means they will play Europa League football next term, after what has been a stuttering campaign that began with promise after the summer acquisitions of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite the five-time Ballon d’Or winner notching 18 league goals, he was unable to help steer the Red Devils back to the Champions League.

Incoming manager Ten Hag has been tasked with turning around the club’s fortunes next season with a summer of upheaval expected at Old Trafford.

United have been linked with a raid of Ten Hag’s former club Ajax with Jurrien Timber and Antony both linked with moves to Manchester.

Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is another potential name on Ten Hag’s shopping list after the pair worked together at Ajax before De Jong’s switch to the Nou Camp in 2019.

Expected to leave Old Trafford this summer are Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, who are both out of contract next month.

Pogba has been in negotiations with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain over a move with the Italians thought to be leading the chase for his signature.

West Ham have made initial inquiries for Lingard who had a spell on-loan with the Hammers in 2021.

Meanwhile, midfielder Nemanja Matic has confirmed his exit this summer and Juan Mata is also expected to move on after eight years at the club.
