OPINION: Ten Hag gives little away watching United lose
Erik ten Hag stared stoically whenever the camera switched to him in the stands and he will need to perfect that expression for when he is standing on the touchline.
Manchester United avoided relegation to the Conference, which almost gives the denouement to their season a triumphant air. It was so chastening their supporters were more fixated on their phones, doubtless checking the scores at Anfield and the Etihad.
They started cheering upon news City had recovered from 2-0 down to go 3-2 up against Aston Villa, thus safeguarding the Treble amid the threat of a Liverpool quadruple.

Mata’s post-match farewell
United player ratings as Lindelof and Dalot poor
David de Gea
Made two decent saves at 0-0 and could do little about Wilfried Zaha’s goal. A stock performance and result for his season. 6
Never comfortable against Wilfried Zaha and was easy prey for the opening goal. Not a convincing enough performance with full-back departures planned elsewhere. 4
No better than he was at Brighton. Defended feebly and his reading of the play was dreadful. Could – and should – be fourth-choice center-back next season. 4

West Ham take the lead at Brighton

41 ‘- CRY 1-0 MUNSamuel Luckhurst
Dalot and Lindelof at fault
Dalot and Lindelof were as bad as one another there. It was effectively a goal before Zaha scored it, it was that easy. Lindelof is vulnerable against pace and strength and he was barely an obstacle after Zaha held off Dalot, who was easy prey.
39 ‘- CRY 1-0 MUNTyrone Marshall
That was awful from United
As minutes go that is a pretty dreadful one for United, given events elsewhere. We’ve seen Fernandes try that crossfield pass straight from a throw so often. He hasn’t even looked to see if it was on. It’s aimless and it costs his team a goal.
37 ‘- CRY 1-0 MUNKEY EVENT
GOAL! 1-0 PALACE!
GOAL! 1-0 PALACE!
Palace are ahead through Zaha.
Fernandes gifted the chance.

Rangnick’s first and last game
Rangnick’s first game was against Palace in December.
His last game as interim boss is against Palace in May.
31 ‘- CRY 0-0 MUNSamuel Luckhurst
The atmosphere is outstanding
All of the stories are, of course, elsewhere and there has been little of note this half. United have had some decent chances but their rhythm is non-existent and Schlupp has just tested De Gea again after some dire defending from Lindelof.
For a meaningless game, the atmosphere in the home and away sections is excellent. The game is not.
28 ‘- CRY 0-0 MUNTyrone Marshall
Cavani has caught the eye
Cavani is having a decent game in his first start since February 8. From the winter rain at Turf Moor to the sunshine in south London, I imagine he is enjoying this one a little more. Electric pace from Elanga to stay clear of Mitchell but caught in two minds. Game starting to open up and United do not look convincing at the back.
25 ‘- CRY 0-0 MUNSteven Railston
Fernandes comes close.
Elanga should have played the ball earlier.
