Chelsea takeover finally complete as Todd Boehly era begins

Chelsea have been handed a huge boost in their hopes of signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Juventus midfielder – and the Italian giants may be willing to part ways with the Frenchman if they are successful in signing his compatriot Paul Pogba. And with Rabiot’s contract in Turin set to expire in a year time, he could be available this summer.

It comes as the Blues have gained the initiative in the race to sign Ousmane Dembele with reports suggesting Paris Saint-Germain have dropped out of the race to sign him. And Chelsea are about to lose their record of being the most expensive sporting team in the world just weeks after Todd Boehly £ 4.25bn takeover of the club.

Rabiot transfer boost

Chelsea may be able to sign Adrien Rabiot thanks to Paul Pogba’s decision to join Juventus.

The midfielder departed Manchester United at the end of the season and is now poised to return to Turin with Juve having emerged as the frontrunners to sign him. Reports coming out of Italy suggest Chelsea are leading the chase for Juve midfielder Rabiot, who could be available for as little as £ 13million.

And if Juve can secure the services of Pogba this summer, it could pave the way for Chelsea to sign Rabiot after the pair clashed on international duty in Euro 2020.

PSG out of Dembele race

Chelsea’s pursuit of Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele has been boosted after Paris Saint-Germain withdrew from the race to sign him.

Dembele was previously a target for PSG, but they are no longer interested, according to reports coming out of Spain. Before his massive £ 96.8m move to Spain, Thomas Tuchel worked with Dembele at Borussia Dortmund and tried to bring him to Stamford Bridge in January.

Chelsea have reportedly offered the France international a four-year contract with a signing-on fee, and while the offer is thought to have fallen short of Dembele’s demands negotiations are expected to continue.

Chelsea lose most expensive tag

Chelsea are set to lose their label as the most expensive sports team in the world just weeks after their 25 4.25bn takeover.

Todd Boehly’s consotrium paid £ 2.5bn for the Premier League outfit, with a commitment to invest a further £ 1.75bn in the future. But now the NFL side Denver Broncos are set to be taken over by American businessman Rob Walton in a deal worth £ 3.6bn.

And it means the Blues could almost immediately be trumped as the world’s most expensive sporting franchise.
