Chelsea ‘draw up an EIGHT-MAN transfer shortlist’ to solve their defensive crisis, with Jules Kounde and Joska Gvardiol top of the list … and also have an eye on a shock move for Raheem Sterling
- Chelsea have drawn up an eight-man shortlist of defenders to sign this summer
- The Blues have put Jules Kounde and Josko Gvardiol are the top of their wish list
- Thomas Tuchel will only be able to start business once takeover is complete
- Todd Boehly-lead takeover is expected to be approved within the next 24 hours
Chelsea have reportedly drawn up an eight-man shortlist of defenders in a bid to resolve the club’s center-back crisis, once the Todd Boehly takeover goes through.
The 25 4.25billion sale of Chelsea to a US consortium led by tycoon Boehly is expected to be approved by the UK Government in the next 24 hours.
The Blues are planning to move quickly in the transfer window once the club to give the green light to resume business, with Jules Kounde and Josko Gvardiol are both near the top of their list of defensive targets, according to The Telegraph.

Boss Thomas Tuchel has his work cut out for him this summer as he needs to replace Antonio Rudiger, who is heading to Real Madrid, Andreas Christensen who is joining Barcelona as well as the potential exits of both Cesar Azpilcueta and Marcos Alonso.
Kounde, 23, appears to be the primary target and could finally arrive at Stamford Bridge 12 months after seeing a transfer to Chelsea fall through.
The Frenchman would help solve the potential problem on the right side of Tuchel’s back three with Christensen joining Barcelona and Azpilicueta’s future still in doubt.

RB Leipzig youngster Gvardiol has been heavily linked with the Blues for a lengthy period of time as the replacement for Rudiger on the left-side of defense.
The 20-year-old has established himself in the Bundesliga side’s first-team and helped them reach the Europa League semi-final.
Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez are also among the top four targets on the eight-man shortlist according to this report.
They may face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham for Torres, Gimenez and Gvardiol as they have also shown an interest.

It is not just defenders that Tuchel is keen to sign this summer, as he is targeting a new midfielder, and has made it clear previously that he needs to assess his attack.
Any incoming business could depend heavily on potential departures in those positions to free up space in the squad and for wages.
A midfielder could be vital with both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante both only having one year left on their current contracts at Stamford Bridge.
Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic all could be tempted away this summer with the trio failing to stamp down places in the first-team squad this season.
The Blues are keen on Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, but seem to have fallen behind both Real Madrid and Liverpool in the race to sign the French international while they seem to have been priced out of a move for Declan Rice with West Ham wanting £ 150million.

The west London outfit are also eyeing a shock move for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling if they can shift Werner, Ziyech or Pulisic this summer with the England star yet to decide on his future.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also interested in Sterling, but the Blues would be a more attractive option at this stage of the 27-year-old’s career if he was to decide against signing a contract extension at City.
Sterling is reportedly set to wait until after England’s Nations League fixtures in June before making a decision on his future.
